Overview

Research Clinical Psychologist (Internal Only) – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

THIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

About us:

King’s College London is a world-leading university with a global reputation for research and education. The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is Europe’s largest centre for mental health and neuroscience. Within the IoPPN, the Department of Psychology is one of the largest of its kind, conducting internationally recognised research and teaching in areas ranging from mental health and neurodevelopment to emotion, personality and physical health.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic researcher to join the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. The postholder will work within a team specialising in child and adolescent mental health, with a particular focus on the integration of physical and mental healthcare for children and young people with epilepsy.

The role will involve leading and supporting research studies that develop and evaluate innovative approaches to mental health care in the context of chronic physical illness. A particular emphasis will be on qualitative and quantitative methods, including the design, conduct, and analysis of interviews with children, families, and clinicians, and advanced statistical analysis of clinical and trial data. The postholder will make a substantial contribution to an international collaboration with colleagues in Australia, where a psychological treatment is being adapted and piloted for children and young people with developmental and epileptic encephalopathies.

In addition to contributing to research delivery, the postholder will take on supervisory and leadership responsibilities within the team. This will include day-to-day support for junior research staff and postgraduate students, coordination of project activities across multiple studies, and maintaining effective collaboration with clinical partners and external stakeholders. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to grant writing, publications, and conference presentations, as well as teaching and training activities within the Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled researcher with strong expertise in both qualitative and quantitative approaches, and an interest in the intersection of physical and mental health in children and young people. The position offers the chance to develop an independent research profile while working within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, and is well suited to those aiming to progress towards an academic career in child and adolescent mental health research.

This is a part-time post (7 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 28th February 2028. Please note that as the role is part-time, the salary displayed on the advert will be amended accordingly (pro rata).
