Overview

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us:

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London is a global leader in research and education on mental health, neurodevelopment and neuroscience. Within the Department of Psychology, the Neurodevelopment, Epilepsy, Support & Trajectories (NEST) Lab investigates early brain and behavioural development in children with neurodevelopmental conditions and epilepsy. Our work combines experimental neuroscience, longitudinal cohort studies, and close partnerships with families, clinicians and charities to inform understanding and improve outcomes.

About the role:

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to coordinate the preschool follow-up of the Brain Development in Early Epilepsy (BEE) Study, a longitudinal cohort following infants with early-onset epilepsy into childhood. The preschool phase focuses on children aged 3–5 years and involves home-based developmental and experimental assessments across the UK.

The successful applicant will oversee data collection, management and analysis, and lead the dissemination of findings to academic and lay audiences. You will work closely with families, NHS Trusts and charity partners, and contribute to patient and public involvement activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to build a distinctive profile in developmental cognitive neuroscience and neurodevelopmental conditions, and to collaborate with world-leading clinical academics.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week) but applications are welcome for part-time working (minimum 80% FTE), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 31/03/2028.

The role requires flexibility across the standard KCL 35-hour working week, including some evening/weekend work and overnight stays, to accommodate family schedules and geographical spread.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. Visit the Centre for Research Staff Development for more information.
