Plant Operative ( Days) – Tilbury 

To contribute to the department by decontaminating and sorting wood products manually, supporting the operation, assist with maintenance of all site equipment and general housekeeping. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Preparation
 
1.1   Ensure understanding of the daily production plan, your duties and where you fit into operations 
 
1.2   Complete daily start up checks on all machinery and report defects where necessary 
 
1.3  Support the site operation by emptying tip bins, moving materials when requested and assisting with refuelling and housekeeping.
 
1.4  Ensure you have and wear the required personal protective equipment and it is in good order to carry out your duties.
 
1.5  To follow all site and company procedures, conduction your duties safely not endanger themselves and others.
 
1.6  Work with the team ensuring the site is maintained, clean and safe.
 
1.7  The removal of any contamination from any area including the picking station. 
 
1.8  Assist and carry out site cleaning and housekeeping
 
 
 
2.    Specialised
 
2.1  Monitor incoming wood loads and remove any contamination, such as paper, plastic, etc (Load Inspection)
 

2.2  Unload pallets from incoming wagons using the Telehandler (if Trained)
 
2.3  General housekeeping, to include the use of air hose lines, water hoses, hand shovels and brushes.
 
2.4  Assist with site maintenance within own capabilities.
 
2.5  Load inspection and packaging duties (If trained)
 
2.6  Operate necessary Mobile Plant in accordance with the requirements of the department (If trained)
 
2.7  Operate necessary static Plant in accordance with the requirements of the department (If trained)
 
3.    Policy Compliance
 
3.1  Ensure that all Company Policies, Procedures and associated work activity Health and Safety documentation is adhered to
 
3.2  Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of Company and customer information
 
3.3  To be aware of cleanliness within your work and communal areas and that the ‘clean as you go’ statement is enforced
 
3.4  Ensure you have read and understood all site-specific procedures, emergency procedures, Generic Risk Assessments, and Isolation procedures in respect of your daily duties.
 
3.5  Do not operate any equipment unless trained or authorised to do so.
 
4.    Monitoring
 
4.1  Report all breaches of Company Policy, Procedures and Health and Safety
 
4.2  Actively report all near misses, damage, incidents and accidents on site
 
4.3  Monitor and record fuel issued to mobile and static plant machinery 
 
4.4  Report all machine/activity defects as they occur 
 
4.5  Record packaging with incoming material in line with training and site-specific procedures.
 
4.6  Action any downgrade, contamination or rejection loads of inbound material to the site-specific procedures.
 
4.7  Record prestart checks and OEE documentation.
 
 
5.    Communication
 
5.1   Maintain effective communication with colleagues, management, and other staff internal and external to the organisation.
 
5.2   Maintain effective communication with all customers; to include clear interpretation and response to spoken requests, verbal/written instructions, and all relevant queries.
 
5.3  Act as traffic Marshall as per training to ensure safe operations
 
5.4  Use radio communication whenever in the operational area with others that may affect your safety.
 
6.    Additional
 
6.1   Work within the key objectives and performance indicators required within your job role and department
 
6.2   To provide cover where necessary for direct colleagues and other departments and sites within the Group Companies in the event of absence and company needs.
 
6.3  Be responsible for personal development needs, undertaking training where necessary to fulfil and progress skills within the role and business needs.
 
6.4  To recommend and identify any improvements associated to work activities/the department area
 
6.5  In addition, the employee must be prepared to undertake any reasonable requests made to meet to business needs of the Company for which training will be given.
