How you’ll make a difference
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you will maintain our safe and reliable vehicle fleet by delivering high quality servicing and repairs on vehicles and plant. You will work at the transport services workshops, based at our Broad Lane site.
What you will be doing
- Daily, you will carry out repairs, defect rectification, servicing and inspections on cars and light and heavy commercial vehicles.
- It will be your responsibility to ensure that vehicles and plant items are safe and in a roadworthy condition, meeting quality standards.
- Regularly, you will conduct MOT test preparation and vehicle repairs, and attend breakdowns as required.
- You will participate in the standby out of hours and emergency cover arrangements.
- It will be key for you to complete all relevant documentation such as daily and weekly time recording, vehicle and plant job cards, defect reports and MOT documentation and procedures.
What we need from you
- It is essential that you hold either an NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, a City and Guilds Level 1, 2 and 3 in a related trade, or an equivalent qualification.
- You will have extensive experience in vehicle servicing and repair, including LGV/PSV vehicles, plant, cars and vans running on electric, diesel and petrol, and have knowledge and experience of vehicle electrical systems.
- You must have up-to-date technical and legislative knowledge, gained through either work experience or training courses.
- Having effective time and workload management skills, you will be able to deliver your work effectively to achieve team goals.
- It is desirable that you hold an HGV/PSV licence, have an MOT tester qualification and experience in welding, hydraulics and diagnostics.
- We require you to hold a driving licence at category B as a minimum.
