How you’ll make a difference

Based at our library in Cadbury Heath, you will support the delivery and promotion of the library service.

What you will be doing

  • Day-to-day, you will provide library services to the community as well as assisting with requests and enquiries by searching information through a range of resources.
  • You will use the library management system, self-service equipment and help the public use IT and information resources.
  • As required, you will need to handle cash and card payments.
  • It will be your responsibility to participate in the preparation of new materials and the maintenance of existing stock through the repair and withdrawal of older materials as directed. You will ensure the good order and general tidiness of the service point including the sorting and shelving of materials in the appropriate sequence and assisting with promotions and displays.
  • It will be key for you to take part in a wide range of promotional activities and outreach work with all ages, including active involvement in rhyme and story times, undertaking craft sessions, hosting reading groups, organising author events, making school visits and visiting community centres.
  • Regularly, you will need to undertake the physical aspects of the job including shelving and counter work, lifting and carrying of books and other materials and unpacking and packing crates from our deliveries.

What we need from you

  • You must have a minimum of three GCSE’s grade 4 or above or equivalent qualification including English and maths.
  • It is essential that you have an understanding of equal opportunities in the delivery of services, this must include the ability to work with people of all ages and be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • You should have experience of using ICT equipment, applications and the internet.

What you need to know

  • Your salary will be pro-rated to hours worked.
  • The working pattern for this role will be worked across a 2-week timetable and will include alternate Saturdays.
    • Week 1: Tuesday 10am to 4.30pm, Thursday 9.45am to 3pm, Friday 10am to 4.30pm & Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm.
    • Week 2: Tuesday 10am to 4.30pm, Thursday 9.45am to 3pm, Friday 10am to 4.30pm.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 12th November 2025.
