We’re looking for a Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to join the Substance Misuse Service at HMP Brixton, delivering psychosocial interventions within the New Models of Care (NMOC) framework.
Based onsite at HMP Brixton, a Category C resettlement prison for men aged 18+ in South London, you’ll work within an integrated healthcare team supporting individuals with drug and/or alcohol misuse issues. This is a trauma-informed, recovery-focused service designed to support individuals from early custody through to release and resettlement.
In this role, you will:
- Manage a caseload of service users aged 18+
- Complete assessments and personalised care plans
- Deliver structured 1:1 sessions and group interventions
- Provide harm reduction advice and recovery support
- Contribute to structured treatment programmes (where applicable)
- Work collaboratively with services including Healthcare, Probation, Housing, Employment, and Gym
- Support through-care planning and preparation for release
- Meet service targets set by Forward and local commissioners
Rota & Availability:
- The Service operates 7 days a week – evening and weekend working is required on a rota basis
- Completion of the Drug and Alcohol Workforce Development Programme (DAWFDP) is mandatory, this is a 12-month structured programme aligned with the OHID capability framework that forms part of essential training for the role. This must be undertaken at the earliest opportunity

allowance reviewed every 6-months, basic salary based on 35 hours would be
£25,207.00. This interim scheme will be reviewed on 31st March 2026
