Band 6 Respiratory Nurse – Livingstone Hospital, Dartford

Are you passionate about supporting people with respiratory conditions to live well in the community?

We’re looking for a Band 6 Respiratory Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team across Dartford, Gravesend and Swanley, North Kent. In this role, you’ll deliver high-quality, evidence-based respiratory nursing care to patients with chronic respiratory conditions, helping to improve quality of life, promote independence, prevent avoidable hospital admissions, and support timely discharge from acute services.

You’ll work closely with senior clinicians, the wider multidisciplinary team, and primary care colleagues, contributing to proactive case management and health promotion initiatives aligned with neighbourhood and community care models.

Your base will be Livingstone Hospital, Dartford, with regular travel across Dartford, Gravesend and Swanley. As this is a community-based role, a UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is essential.

Main Responsibilities

As a Band 6 Community Respiratory Nurse, you will:

  • Manage a defined caseload of patients with chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD and asthma, under the guidance of senior clinicians

  • Undertake holistic patient assessments, deliver agreed clinical interventions, and support patients with self-management plans

  • Monitor patient progress and escalate concerns appropriately to support admission avoidance and early discharge

  • Provide respiratory education and health promotion to patients, carers, and colleagues

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across community, primary, and acute care settings

  • Contribute to service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards

  • Support less experienced colleagues and students through supervision and informal teaching

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration

  • Has post-registration respiratory nursing experience, ideally within a community or long-term conditions setting

  • Demonstrates evidence of continuing professional development in respiratory care

  • Has a good working knowledge of respiratory conditions such as COPD and asthma, and relevant clinical guidelines

  • Is confident carrying out respiratory assessments and supporting oxygen therapy under protocol

  • Has strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centred approach

  • Is motivated to develop specialist skills, with support from senior clinicians

A UK driving licence and access to a car is essential due to the community nature of the role.
