This is an excellent opportunity to join a small team for an experienced Health and Safety professional.

The primary purpose of the Health and Safety Officer is to promote and maintain a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment by ensuring that employees, contractors, visitors, and members of the public are protected from workplace hazards and risks. The role supports the organisation in meeting its legal obligations under health and safety legislation, reducing accidents and incidents, and fostering a positive safety culture.

Main Responsibilities:

1. To assist the Estates and HSQE Manager to monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
2. Provide health and safety advice, guidance, and training to employees and managers.
3. Conduct workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
4. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions appropriate reporting to HSE where required.
5. Provide advice, guidance and support to managers and staff in the completion and review of high-quality risk assessments and workplace inspections, ensuring health and safety risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed across the organisation.
6. Develop, review, and update health and safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
7. Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
8. To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
9. All members of the workforce are to comply with all Health and Safety regulations in accordance with the Warwickshire Police Health and Safety Policy.
   

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

Essential:

• NEBOSH Diploma; or Level 4 NVQ in Occupational Health and Safety Practice; and actively working towards Chartered status
• A thorough understanding of health and safety and its practical application in the workplace
  

Desirable:

• Chartered membership of IOSH
  

Experience:

• Experience of providing Health and Safety advice, preferably within the police or other emergency services environment.
• Experience of reconciling legislative compliance with practical workplace activities.

Key Skills:

• A structured approach to problem solving
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and present reports and deliver training sessions
• Effective interpersonal skills to be able to influence others and resolve conflict
  

Special Conditions:

Travel throughout Warwickshire.
The duties of this role may include exposure to unpleasant or disturbing images such as crime scenes.
On occasion if required to provide on site advice at crime scenes.
