Asda’s Technology Strategy & Architecture function is looking for a Cloud Solution Architect to join our Architecture Team. You’ll be working within an established architecture function, embedded into our cloud team, accountable for cloud solutions and cloud platform architecture.
Successful candidates will report to a Senior Solutions Architect Manager, aligning and working closely to the Cloud and Technology Enterprise Architect for Technical Leadership whilst being authoritative leaders and trusted advisors of architectural design and process.
Your Role: / What you’ll love:
As a Cloud Solution Architect, you will be passionate about cloud technologies and committed to driving a cloud-first approach across our organisation. You’ll have a strong understanding of cloud platforms and a continuous learning mindset with a desire to develop architectural expertise with our support. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop scalable, secure, and stable cloud architectures, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical best practices.
In this role you’ll be working in one of the UK’s largest, modern, cloud first and innovative retail environments. With the ability to leverage the latest Cloud technology, techniques and thinking to build our business.

Advocate for a cloud-first mindset, ensuring solutions are built with cloud-native principles.

Work alongside the Cloud & Technology Enterprise Architect to develop and maintain cloud strategies, and roadmap.

Design, implement, and optimise cloud architectures that are scalable, secure, and cost-effective, to meet business and technical requirements.

Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to embed and mature cloud best practices, and optimise cloud infrastructure.

Lead cloud modernisation projects across the organisation.

Provide guidance on best practices for cloud security, governance, and compliance, while also helping to define and develop cloud policies and standards.

Stay up to date with the latest cloud innovations and trends and share knowledge across teams.

You’ll allocate 10% of your time dedicated towards Learning & Development activities aligned to your Personal Development Plan.
About You: / What you’ll need:

Proven experience working with at least one major cloud provider.

A deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and serverless computing.

Hands-on experience with containers and Infrastructure as Code is beneficial.
A passion for automation, DevOps, and continuous improvement.

Strong communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to collaborate with and influence teams to adopt a cloud-first approach.

A willingness to develop architectural expertise with support and mentorship.

Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) are a plus but not required.

Ability to approach design with timeliness, cost and quality factors in mind.

Risk identification and mitigation, quantification and qualification of non-functional and functional requirements.

Problem solving to get to the root cause, identifying and assessing solution options.

Excellent written skills and the ability to clearly distil complex architectures into consumable documents and views.

Ability to capture and define principals, standards and designs that can be easily understood for all.

Self-starter with the ability to operate independently utilising their own judgement

Ability to work with business and deliver partners, being seen as a dependable and approachable member of the team.

Ability to present at Design Authority and other decision-making forums and gain consensus from a variety of stakeholders.

Prior architecture experience is not essential.
