The Role and Department
As an Electrical and Data Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a vital role in delivering a professional, customer-focused electrical engineering and data infrastructure service that supports the University’s strategic and operational needs. Your expertise will ensure the development and continuous improvement of a reliable, efficient, and future-ready electrical infrastructure across the campus. Working closely with Computing and Information Services (CIS), stakeholders and contractors, you will oversee the planning and execution of electrical and data installations, upgrades, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
This role offers a unique opportunity to influence and shape the University’s infrastructure through the development of design processes, technical specifications, and service standards. You will manage a diverse portfolio of projects from inception to completion, contribute to the University’s Building Engineering Services Design Guidelines, and act as a key point of contact for resolving complex technical issues. Your responsibilities will also include managing contractor frameworks, monitoring performance, and ensuring all work aligns with the University’s sustainability goals and safety regulations. As a recognised professional in your field, you will collaborate across departments, lead working groups, and provide expert advice to support the University’s mission of delivering a world-class learning and research environment.
The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses.
