We are seeking an exceptional safety leader to take on the pivotal role of Engineering Safety Systems & Standards Manager, responsible for driving the development, performance, and continual improvement of our occupational, operational, and engineering safety management systems.
This is a senior leadership role at the heart of our Engineering Directorate—ideal for a highly experienced safety professional ready to influence strategy, lead a specialist team, and deliver industry-leading safety outcomes.
What You’ll Lead

Champion fleet operational & occupational safety across Engineering

Oversee safety investigations and ensure robust data-driven analysis

Provide expert safety guidance to depot and engineering leadership teams
-
Deliver internal & external audit programmes to ISO standards
-
Develop, refine & implement Safety Management System processes
-
Lead improvement programmes and secure investment through strong business cases
-
Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and industry best practice
-
Foster a culture of openness, high performance, and continuous improvement
-
Manage a team of 10 Safety Specialists and support fleet incident response (on-call)
What You’ll Bring
-
NEBOSH Diploma (minimum)
-
IEMA/ISEP Environmental Management qualification
-
Risk Assessment & Internal Auditor qualifications
-
Ideally Chartered IOSH (or working toward)

Strong understanding of ISO safety, quality, energy & environmental standards
-
Proven leadership & stakeholder influence across a complex organisation

Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills
-
Minimum 10 years’ experience in safety management, including leading safety teams
-
Background in rolling stock engineering or similar high-risk environment
