Role responsibilities

As the designated Professional Head of Occupational Safety, you will lead the strategic oversight and delivery of occupational safety across Transport for Wales, ensuring the wellbeing of both employees and contractors.

  • Lead the Occupational Safety team in the provision of expert advice, guidance and support to the wider business
  • Deputise for the Safety, Security & Risk Director as when required.
  • Lead the development and delivery of the Occupational Safety strategy, taking a high-profile pro-active approach to safety management at all levels of the business.
  • In partnership with the Head of Security, Risk & Resilience, review company safety performance and ensure that focus is maintained in key areas of concern and reflected in the TfW risk register.

Who we’re looking for

  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Experience of auditing and investigation techniques
  • Batchelors Degree or Relevant Certification (e.g. Environmental, H&S, NEBOSH Diploma, IEMA etc)
  • Member of IIRSM or IOSH or other similar professional body

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
