Overview
Job Introduction
Make a meaningful impact by helping us connect and inspire our people – even if just for six months.
At the Medical Protection Society (MPS), we protect the professionals who protect and care for patients every day. As the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals, we’ve been providing world-class advice, protection and support for more than 130 years.
We’re now looking for an Internal Communications Manager to join us on a 6-month fixed term contract, helping us deliver key communications and engagement priorities while continuing to evolve how we connect across our global organisation.
Role Responsibility
This is a brilliant opportunity for a talented communicator to make a real difference in a short space of time. You’ll play a key role in how we engage our people, ensuring our colleagues across the world feel informed, connected and part of something bigger.
Working within our People Division, you’ll take the lead on planning and delivering internal communications activity that supports our organisational priorities and helps embed our evolving ways of working.
As our Internal Communications Manager, you’ll:
- Keep us on track to deliver our engaging internal communications, ensuring messages are clear, consistent and aligned to our purpose and strategy.
- Partner with leaders and teams to support key updates, change communications and engagement campaigns.
- Manage internal channels and our meeting cadence– including digital platforms, newsletters and events – to keep colleagues connected and informed.
- Develop and deliver creative content, from leadership messages and colleague stories to videos and visuals that bring our culture to life.
- Rigorously use data and feedback to measure the impact of communications and continually keep checking on our impact.
This role will suit someone who’s comfortable stepping into a fast-paced environment, building quick relationships and getting hands-on from day one.
The Ideal Candidate
You’ll be a confident and adaptable communicator who enjoys variety and thrives on getting things done. You’ll know how to craft messages that resonate, simplify complexity and build connection and we also need someone who is comfortable managing a small team, keeping on track with the rhythm of communications and the established cadence.
We’re looking for someone who can quickly understand our tone, culture and priorities — and deliver impactful communications that help our colleagues feel informed and inspired.
You’ll bring:
- Experience in leading an internal communications team or closely related functions such as People, PR, or Employer Branding.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver projects from start to finish, using strong organisational and communication skills—formal project management qualifications not required.
- Deep understanding of internal communications theory and best practice.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Plays a key role in keeping operations steady and focused—ensuring deadlines are met and nothing slips through the cracks.
- Ability to translate business strategy into engaging communications.
- Comfortable using digital communication tools and platforms.
This role could suit someone with experience in-house or agency-side, or a communications professional seeking a meaningful short-term opportunity to add value while broadening their portfolio.
Package Description
At MPS, you’ll find a workplace that’s collaborative, inclusive and purpose driven. We’re a mutual organisation, owned by our members, not shareholders — so our focus is always on doing what’s right, not just what’s profitable.
You’ll join a team that values creativity, integrity and connection, and you’ll have the opportunity to shape how we communicate with our people during a time of exciting change and evolution.
We offer:
- 11% pension contribution (3% from you, 8% from us – optional additional matched 3% contributions, e.g. 6% from you, 11% from us)
- 25 days annual leave. Flexible public holidays and option to buy/sell additional leave
- Private Medical Cover
- Car Salary Sacrifice scheme
- 6x salary death in service
- Holistic health and wellbeing support package
- A truly flexible hybrid-working arrangement
- A culture that promotes inclusivity, wellbeing and rewards hard work
