The Opportunity
Alongside earning a salary of £37,500 per annum, you’ll work towards professional registration with institutions such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and others – fully supported by us.
Over the course of this 16-month programme, you’ll rotate through a variety of placements across our nuclear business. You’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to real-world projects – from turbine overhauls to reactor core modelling.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mechanical Engineering Graduate at EDF, you’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support the UK’s journey to net zero
- Complete technical and safety justifications for modifications to pipework systems
- Prepare fire protection strategies for nuclear power station buildings
- Oversee the overhaul of steam turbines during maintenance shutdowns
- Support the commissioning of safety-critical systems at Hinkley Point C
- Model gas flows and temperatures within nuclear reactor cores
Your Work Location
You’ll be based at one of our key sites – #Gloucester, #Bristol, #Bridgwater, #Hartlepool or #Sizewell – with the flexibility to rotate across locations depending on your placements. Most roles require 3–5 days per week on site. We’ll support you with practical and financial help to make these moves as smooth as possible.
Who You Are
To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 2:2 or higher in a Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering. You’ll also need strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in nuclear energy and technology.
Security Vetting
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
