Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.
Bord Gáis Energy is currently commissioning two 100MW flexible gas fired Peaking Power Plants in Dublin and Athlone, and we’re looking for an Operations Engineer to join the O&M Team! This O&M Team will be responsible for the management of these assets on a 24/7 basis.
Location: This Operations Engineer position can be based at either our Dublin Profile Park Peaking Plant or our Athlone Peaking Plant. However, flexibility will be needed to travel between our sites in Ireland.
In this role you will ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Peaking Plant assets through a focus on operational excellence and integrating ‘Safety from the System’ principles.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead by example in safety and quality, consistently demonstrating BGE values on site.
- Collaborate across teams to build a strong safety and environmental culture, ensuring full compliance with regulations and licenses.
- Manage the day-to-day interactions between the Peaking Plant O&M Team and the Operations Team in a separate Energy Management Centre that will remotely operate and monitor the Dublin and Athlone Peaking Power Plants and other energy assets in Ireland, UK, and Europe.
- Manage and report operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and lead all operational event investigations to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and reliability improvement projects.
- Develop and own all operational and emergency response procedures. Act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), ensuring safe systems of work and managing permits.
- Coordinate safety across systems and boundaries, including Eirgrid and GNI interfaces.
Here’s who we’re looking for:
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and teams.
- Experience in the operation of Energy Assets and SCADA control systems.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure, and cyber security concepts, as relevant to Industrial Control Systems and the interfaces with other plant systems and corporate networks would be advantageous.
- Strong data analytical skills with experience on OSI PI Systems, Power BI and Excel.
- Proven track record in the sourcing, combining, analysing and presentation of large datasets.
- Experience in incident management and managing root cause investigations and tracking actions to completion.
- Experience in the implementation of Safety Rules to deliver ‘Safety from the System’ at power generation assets (including acting as a Senior Authorised Person on mechanical and electrical systems).
- Strong technical knowledge of equipment and process.
Our operation will be 24/7 therefore flexibility is required to support a 24/7 Operations function. You will also be required to be ‘on call’ outside of normal working hours, on a rostered basis.
