The Opportunity 

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £24,500 and the chance to work at one of our key nuclear sites. You’ll join the Operational Technical Support team at Heysham 1, where you’ll support daily operations and help improve plant performance. 

You’ll gain experience in pump mechanics, cooling systems, and problem-solving across plant-wide scenarios. This placement offers a unique opportunity to work with experienced engineers and develop a broad understanding of nuclear operations. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

During your Plant Efficiency Industrial Placement, you’ll work at #Heysham 1 within the Operational Technical Support department. Past students have worked on diagnosing plant-wide issues, supporting mechanical systems, and contributing to the safe and efficient running of the station. 

This placement offers practical learning in a professional environment, supported by experienced teams and mentors. You’ll apply academic knowledge to real industry contexts while completing degree-relevant modules and gaining insight into plant operations within the energy sector. 

Your Work Location 

You’ll be based on site at #Heysham 1 Power Station, within the Operational Technical Support Department. 

Who You Are 

To be eligible for this EDF industrial placement, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a bachelor’s degree (2:2 or higher) in a relevant field such as Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. Candidates from other disciplines with strong mechanical comprehension or thermodynamics experience are also encouraged to apply.

Security Vetting 

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
