The Role

The role of Shift Leader is recognised as a first line manager position within the business and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of their area, resources and team members, with primary responsibilites to organise the manufacturing process and ensuring colleagues operate in a safe and timely manner whilst also achieving the customer’s requirements for quality.

In keeping with the Smurfit Westrock Open Leadership Framework, you are required to display appropriate positive leadership behaviours that empower and inspire their teams to perform to the best of their capabilities.

On occasion and where appropriate tyou will be required to deputise for the Production Supervisor

Main Duties & Responsibilities

People Management

The Shift Leaders is responsible for managing the day-to-day people resource within their area, including:

  • Health & Safety
  • Training & Development and Performance Development Plans/Reviews
  • Performance and Abesnce Management
  • Investigations, Discipline & Grievance
  • Team Briefings/Production Meetings/Tool Box Talks
  • Update TMS system

Controls & Targets

The Shift Leaders is responsible for achieving and communicating operational targets within their area of responsibility, both within their own team and across the wider organisation.  The Shift Leaders will be responsible for ensuring their team members understand the measures and how they are performing against them.  They will be able to identify possible areas of improvement.  Key areas of focus may include Waste, Service, Quality, Overtime, Manning, OTIF, Down time – planned maintenance, Stock Levels, Complaints reduction, SSOW/SOPs, Safety Conversations, Audits

Operations

The Shift Leaders is responsible for managing the operational activites within their area.  Key areas of focus will include:

  • Ensuring safety systems and practices are followed at all times.
  • Ensure customer delivery and quality requirements are achieved.
  • Delivery and service to the customer is at or above OTIF targets.
  • All quality checks for are completed to agreed frequency.
  • Machine speeds are optimised for all jobs.
  • Incident reports are communicated to the relevant departments.
  • Set up times are at agreed targets.
  • Machine feed targets are achieved consistently.
  • Housekeeping audits done regularly
  • Manage Machine crewing & holiay reuquirments
  • Feedback is accurate and correct for the shift end reports.
  • Crew training requirements are monitored along with performance reviews.

Your job title does not limit your duties and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake any other duties within your capability.
