The A Side: A Day in The Life
In October 2024, Universal Music UK brought together two iconic music labels, Island and EMI Records, to create Island EMI Label Group. The new powerhouse label group is designed to help deliver our strategy to support artists from the wider Universal family, linking closely with US label partners REPUBLIC Corps, and Interscope Capitol Labels Group.
Blending these labels brings Island’s unique ethos of launching pioneering and influential global artists such as Bob Marley, U2, Amy Winehouse, Hozier and The Last Dinner Party, with EMI’s illustrious history and roster of diverse acts from the UK, including Sir Elton John, Queen and Metallica. The label group is also home to a star-studded US and international roster which includes artists such as Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Drake, Lewis Capaldi, Noah Kahan and Chappell Roan.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
This is an exciting role within the Island EMI Label Group within the Streaming & Commerce department. The roles main remit will be to liaise with select external partners (DSPs) keeping them updated on our schedule of releases, from our broad roster of hugely exciting artists. You will also be required to regularly liaise with internal stakeholders including our US label partners, gaining a deep knowledge of the latest on their artist campaigns and keeping them abreast of UK support. You will also be required to build relationships with our UK signed artist management teams and the wider artist teams including Island EMI Label Group Directors, A&R, Marketing, Audience, Promotions, International teams and more.
Be operational
- Collate and present to our partners (DSPs) with up-to-date, accurate and timely updates on our wide array of releases from Island EMI Label Group.
- Build and maintain relationships with key personnel at streaming business partners (DSPs).
- Lead certain meetings with select DSPs on our schedule of releases, from our broad roster of hugely exciting artists.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, across departments within Island EMI Label Group, and pertinently our US label partners.
- Attend key concerts and events for our artists with key personnel at streaming business partners (DSPs) and the Island EMI team.
- Actively monitor streaming marketplace and track developments in music streaming to advise the label group.
Be analytical
- Use data to analyse customer journey on streaming platforms to inform artist/release strategy and gain further promotion for tracks and artists.
- Present data findings to streaming partners (DSPs) and key stakeholders including management teams.
- Work closely with internal data teams including The Square as part of the Audience division and international teams, to align on data points and trends.
- Work closely with the team to forecast track and album consumption across streaming platforms.
Think strategically
- Lead on specific DSP marketing partnerships to deepen the connection between our Artist campaigns and the Customers of select DSPs.
- Devise and actively pitch for the building blocks for campaigns with our DSP partners.
- Strategically choose the correct times to present what data, when and to whom.
- Build particularly strong relationships with artist Marketing and Audience teams to devise strategies to drive engagement and consumption across select partners.
Person Specification
We are looking for a high calibre candidate who is confident, hardworking and outgoing with a strong sense of personal drive – candidates should have a taken a proactive approach to their career.
- Good relevant experience.
- Must love music!
- Good knowledge of the broad mainstream popular music space including pop, rock, indie, dance, hip-hop, R&B and sound understanding of streaming music services and landscape.
- Ability to demonstrate that they have successfully sought out and maximised opportunities.
- Excellent ability to develop relationships, communicate and influence others.
- Well organised with the ability to plan and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret analytical data.
- Proactive approach to work, constantly seeking improvement in all areas.
- Experience of working on own as well as part of a team, and with colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to remaining calm in an often-pressured environment.
- Excellent IT skills; must be proficient in PowerPoint or KeyNote, Word, Excel, Google workspace and more.
