We have now made our technology available to other banks all around the world, through our Engine by Starling business, enabling them to benefit from the innovative digital features, and efficient back-office processes that have helped achieve Starling’s success.

We are now looking to offer an exciting role in our SaaS business taking on a key responsibility of being the lead Finance person for Engine. You’ll be working closely to support established group functions including Strategy, FP&A and Financial Reporting by becoming the go-to person on all things Engine for the Group, providing key financial and commercial insight, and be an active partner in supporting their work. You’ll work with Engine to provide Finance oversight and support to the Engine business and sit in Management meetings to provide strategic support.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to gain exposure to senior stakeholders within the Group while being a critical partner to the Engine business. Final reporting line to be determined depending on individual hiring and capability.

Responsibilities

Engine, working closely with the wider Group Finance function to:

  • Support the Group with commercial analysis and provide insight into the Engine business including ongoing contract profitability, payback periods of fixed cost growth and geographical expansion with a view to assessing the Group’s return on investment
  • Support Engine’s pricing and risk management through engagement with the wider Group
  • Support the Group with key data inputs and commercial insights to meet statutory and internal financial reporting obligations
  • Continuously monitor Engine’s working capital requirements and performance against KPIs to determine intra-group funding arrangements and support capital allocation decision making
  • Be the main point of contact as part of the decision making process in determining Engine pricing, ensuring future value for the Group as a whole is protected and managed, including FX risk
  • Collaborate with the FP&A team to support bottom-up budgeting and longer term forecasts
  • Support and provide input into the development and implementation of transfer pricing policies that reflect appropriately the services provided  between the group entities
  • Review and surface financial impacts of client contracts by proactively identify and assess emerging financial risks inherent in a high-growth, globally expanding SaaS business
  • Collaborate closely with the Group strategy function to provide insight and analysis to aid the development of the strategy and overall Group equity story

Requirements

  • Relevant professional qualifications – Qualified Accountant (ACA) or CFA, 10Y PQE is beneficial but not essential
  • Relevant work experience in Strategic Finance, Corporate Finance, FP&A, and Strategy/Business Operations at fast-paced companies
  • Experience within a high growth start up would be ideal
  • Tech background desirable, ideally B2B SaaS
  • Highly analytical, strategic and a great communicator
